Performance Testing

Proof that your application holds up when it matters. Under expected load, under extreme stress, while scaling, and over sustained operation, with the metrics to tune it before users feel the strain.

Overview

Prove your application holds up before your users find out it does not

Performance problems rarely announce themselves in a quiet demo. They arrive at the worst moment: a launch, a campaign, a seasonal spike, or the slow drift of a long-running process. Performance testing gives you proof of how your application behaves under expected load, under extreme stress, while scaling and over sustained operation, together with the metrics to tune it before anyone feels the strain.

With Baknet you have a single partner accountable across security, data assurance, software QA and people, so performance work connects to the rest of your delivery rather than sitting apart from it. Our engagements are run by certified, senior practitioners to the standards behind our ISO/IEC 27001 and ISO 9001 certifications. Every finding can be reproduced, each recommended fix is proven by re-running the test, and one retest round is included.

What’s included

What performance testing includes

Load testing

We simulate the user volumes you actually expect and measure response times, throughput and error rates under those conditions. This tells you whether the application meets its performance targets on a normal day, and where the first signs of strain appear as traffic climbs towards your planned ceiling.

Stress testing

Pushing past expected load reveals the breaking point and, more usefully, how the system behaves as it gets there. We look for whether it degrades gracefully or fails abruptly, and whether it recovers cleanly once the pressure eases. Knowing the ceiling lets you plan headroom deliberately instead of discovering it in production.

Scalability testing

As user volumes rise, does the infrastructure and application scale with them, and at what cost? We measure scaling behaviour so capacity decisions rest on evidence. That protects you from paying for headroom you never use and from running short when demand arrives.

Endurance testing

Some failures only appear over time: memory leaks, connection exhaustion and gradual resource decay that a short check never sees. Sustained runs expose that slow deterioration while there is still time to fix it, rather than after it has taken production down at three in the morning.

How we deliver

How we deliver performance testing

We begin by modelling how your application is genuinely used, test it against a faithful environment, then tune and prove the result rather than assume it.

01

Model real workloads

Using production behaviour where available, we define the user journeys, load profiles and performance targets that the tests will hold your application to, so the work reflects how the system is genuinely used.

02

Script and instrument

We script those journeys and stand up a production-representative environment with monitoring instrumented from the outset. A faithful environment is what makes the numbers trustworthy and lets us explain a result rather than just report it.

03

Execute the runs

We run load, stress, scalability and endurance scenarios, capturing response-time percentiles, throughput, error rates and resource utilisation per scenario against the targets agreed up front.

04

Analyse and tune

We pinpoint bottlenecks, recommend specific fixes and re-run to verify measurable improvement. You receive daily progress updates throughout, and one retest round is included so an agreed fix can be proven rather than assumed.

It is the same disciplined path we use across the practice. See how we work on How We Engage.

Why it pays off

Why performance testing pays off

Peak-load ready

Launches, campaigns and seasonal spikes are handled without outages or a degraded experience. Your busiest moments become an opportunity to convert rather than a liability to survive.

Speed that protects revenue

Response-time gains improve conversion, retention and satisfaction directly. Faster interactions keep customers moving through checkout and beyond, protecting the revenue that sluggish performance quietly erodes.

Infrastructure sized to evidence

Scaling behaviour is measured, not guessed. You avoid both the cost of over-provisioning and the risk of running short, because capacity decisions are grounded in what the tests actually showed.

Failures caught early

Endurance runs surface memory leaks and resource decay before they reach production. Your team gets time to resolve the gradual failures that short checks miss, on your schedule rather than under incident pressure.

Confidence in every launch, every spike and every sustained run.

Questions, answered

Frequently asked

Which types of performance testing do you run?

Load, stress, scalability and endurance testing, chosen to fit your risks and goals. Most engagements combine several, since each answers a different question about how the application behaves under pressure.

Do you test in production or a separate environment?

Usually a production-representative environment built for the engagement, with monitoring instrumented. Carefully controlled production tests are possible where that is the only faithful option, and we agree the approach and its safeguards with you first.

What do you need from us to get started?

A description of the application, your expected user volumes and any peak events you are planning for, plus access to a representative environment. From there we agree the load profiles, targets and schedule before any run.

How do you decide what load to test against?

We model it from production behaviour and your own expectations for launches, campaigns and growth, then agree the profiles and targets with you before any run.

What numbers do we get back?

Response-time percentiles, throughput, error rates and resource utilisation per scenario, mapped against the targets we agree up front, plus bottleneck analysis and specific tuning recommendations. The report is written to be actioned, not filed.

How long does a performance testing engagement take?

It depends on the number of scenarios, the environment and how much tuning follows. A focused engagement can run over a couple of weeks, while broader programmes with several tuning cycles take longer. We scope the timeline with you before we begin.

Do you follow recognised standards and methods?

Yes. Our work aligns with established performance-engineering practice and is run to the standards behind our ISO/IEC 27001 and ISO 9001 certifications, so both quality and information security are handled consistently.

Can you re-test after we fix the bottlenecks?

Yes. Re-runs to verify measurable improvement are part of the method, and one retest round is included in every engagement, so you can see the effect of a fix rather than take it on faith.

How does performance testing fit with our in-house team and other testing?

It complements your developers and QA rather than replacing them, and sits alongside functional, resilience and continuous testing. Findings and tuning advice are shared so your team can carry the improvements forward.

Ready to scope it?

Share your application, your expected volumes and your constraints. You will receive a clear, evidence-driven proposal for performance testing, with no obligation.
